Accessibility

Last updated

Everyone should be able to use this site, whatever device or assistive technology they use. Our target is the Web Content Accessibility Guidelines (WCAG) 2.2 at level AA.

What we’ve done

  • Every link, button and form field works from the keyboard, with a visible focus outline. A skip link at the top of each page jumps straight to the content.
  • The menu opens as a dialog. Focus moves into it, stays there while it is open, and returns to the menu button when it closes. Escape closes it.
  • After you follow a link to another page, focus moves to the start of the new page.
  • If your device is set to reduce motion, the opening animation is skipped and pages change without transitions. Any key, click or tap also skips the opening animation.
  • The photographs at the top of the home page change slowly, and a “Pause photographs” button stops them. The quote link in the header nudges once as a page opens and then stays still.
  • Photographs of our work have text descriptions of what they show. Purely decorative images are hidden from screen readers.
  • Text is set to meet WCAG AA contrast (4.5:1, or 3:1 for large text), including over photographs, where it sits on a dark wash.
  • Each page has one main heading, and headings follow a logical order.
  • Form fields have visible labels. Status messages are announced, and if something needs fixing, focus moves to the first field that needs attention.
  • Every page can be read with JavaScript turned off.

Known limitations

The quote form needs JavaScript to send, and a security check from Cloudflare Turnstile. That check is provided by Cloudflare and is outside our control. If either gets in your way, call or email us instead.
